Horizontal has always been more efficient to produce electricity, up until now
Long story short without to many details, horizontal windmills can take advantage of “lift” just like from an airplane wing that makes a plane fly, and get the windmill to spin faster than the wind.
And when you are producing electricity, on an over simplified system – speed is the key.
And you cannot do that in any conventional vertical windmill, because of the fact that the windmill blades have to come back into the wind.
But with the Green Windmill – The fact that the Blades actually collapse when going back into the wind, we can now take advantage of this lift component that always made horizontal windmills better.
Plus, with the higher torque (more available force/energy) produced from the Green Windmill, we can translate that into more power to turn the alternator. To make a traditional horizontal windmill really be effective, it has to be 20 ft above the tallest tree or roof around. Thus making it impractical for most people who live in town.
